Day 3: Speed Skating

The Village is starting to look more "Olympic". There are more athletes coming in and a few nations I have seen today appear new. You start to realize who is here by the colors of the gear they are wearing. I have managed to get some pictures on this blog. It needs a lot of "work" to get the sizes of each file smaller and it can make it through. The Canadian building is shown and a few shots from the top floor of our residence which acts as the athletes lounge. Picture a multi million dollar penthouse suite wrapped with window all around and a balcony offering views of the Village and Vancouver.

I have also a few "before and after" pictures of the medical clinic we have spent time setting up.

I have manage to get some time trying to get some exercise in every day. With a gym like this it's hard to resist. The other factor is that it is hard working out when surrounded by some of the world's fittest people!

I have spent a few hours travelling to the Richmond Oval. An impressive long track speed skating facility. Athletes are training and I had a chance to see some prominent Canadians going through their routines. As I have witnessed many times during my experiences at multisport Games, being rink/court/track side allows the uninitiated to be blown away at the power these athletes have. Track cycling is similar. These skaters make it look so smooth, one forgets they are on very long sharp blades. As opposed to hockey skates, almost not a sound is heard when they glide on the ice. Unless it's the initial take off. The rest is an extremely smooth andpowerfulglide that propulses them around the 400 m ice oval. Canada is planning on some medals to be won by Canadians. Here are a few of the athletes showing their talent.

As some of you will be able to tell....the editing seems to have changed since my Paralympic Blog. It seems more difficult to sort things out and very time comsuming. Enjoy the oics today and I'll be back tomorrow.
