Day 2, More setting up.

I thought I'd try a few uploads of pictures from the Olympic Village. The Blogger upload is still extremely slow and erratic. A few went through. I hope this improves.
Here a shot of of the cafeteria and a scene of some Village decorations.
We spent most of the day keeping busy t different tasks. Everything from trimming some adhesive covering stuck on out windows to let some light in as opposed to full coverage, getting our Wellness centre ready, rearangin the clinic to get better use of the space, etc.....
WE have tons of space which is a luxury. We have a large lounge that we have converted in a Wellness centre. It has been part of the Canadian Team team set up for hte last few years having origined at the 2007 PanAm Games in Rio de Janeiro. It was small at that time and was improved for Beijing and it will be quite large here. The athletes have their lounge where they can hang out, watch evnets on large TVs, share stories with members of different sports but still within the Canadian residence therefore only our team is here. It is the top floor of our building. It will be sold as a stunning penthouse surrounded by glass. The wellness centre is more to relax, rest, get some meditation or yoga individually or with the whole team. It took us a long time to get everything organized as we had to get everything out of boxes and set up from scratch.
The analogy of the last few days is not too different than when people move and they unpack and set up their house. We just ahve to do it all in 1-2 days and be fully functional.
If blogger's picture upload system improves, I'll get some on. Especially the before and after shots. I tried again tonight and it keeps cutting.
Athletes are coming in. I met Clara Hughes today for the first time. She is one of our impressive Olympians who has medalled in both the summer (cycling) and winter games (speed skating). She will be the Canadian flag bearer for the opening ceremonies. What an honour. We won't see the skaters in the Village for long as most of them will reside in Richmond, near the Olympic Oval where they will train and compete, instead of in the Village. That will save them on travel time which equals rest and sleep time. There are many medal hopes to ge won at the Oval. It will be an exciting place to be.
Tomorrow, more teams are arriving. The village is getting busier. I will try and go to the Oval and watch the Canadians train. Hopefully get some good pictures...
Have a good day,
Richard
